Abstract

The present work aimed to Floristic and phytosociological survey of two areas with shrub and tree vegetation was conducted in a sedimentary area in the Brazilian semiarid region, with the objective of verifying the floristic composition and structure of the woody component, increasing knowledge of the flora of the National Park Catimbau (Quartzarenic neossols), Buíque, Pernambuco. 100 sampling points were installed by area, spread over 10 transects, 30m parallel and equidistant. At each point four individuals with girth ? 9 cm at ground level were sampled. In area 1, 16 families, 24 genera and 26 species, with greater number of individuals to Fabaceae (100), Malpighiaceae (87), Myrtaceae (60) and Bignoniaceae (42) were found. In area 2, nine families, 20 genera and 27 species, with greater number of individuals to Fabaceae (209), Euphorbiaceae (70), Verbenaceae (46) and Cactaceae (17) were recorded. The total density, basal area, diameter, height were recorded from 9,964 individuals ha-1, 2,593 m² ha-1, 7,788 cm and 2,409 m, followed by 532,236 individuals ha-1, 2,485 m² ha-1, 7,071 cm and 2,827 m, areas 1 and 2 respectively. The highest VI was registered to Chamaecrista brachystachya Conc., L.P. Queiroz & G.P. Lewis and Pityrocarpa moniliformis (Benth.) Luckow & R. W. Jobson in their respective areas. The two areas studied showed a distinct floristic composition, the presence of species common to the caatinga communities, and characteristic elements of other vegetation types and one rare species from Brazil (Jacaranda rugosa A.H. Gentry). Keywords: Caatinga, semi-arid, dry forest, phytosociology.
