It is increasingly difficult to provide water in sufficient quantity and quality, especially in regions with water scarcity such as the semi-arid region. In Bank Filtration (BF), physical, chemical and biological processes improve water quality during its passage through soil sediments, and may be an alternative to the problem. This work aimed to evaluate the potential application of BF in Orocó, Santa Maria da Boa Vista and Petrolândia. For this, water quality analyzes were carried out in the São Francisco River and lithology evaluation of soil close to the river, by the SIAGAS system and by SPT soundings. In the three cities, the river presented water quality with some contamination or variation in relation to the potability standard, but favorable to the use of the technique. The soil of Santa Maria da Boa Vista is clayey, which makes it impossible to use BF. In Orocó, the soil is composed of pebbles, which does not preclude the use of the technique, but a rotary drilling is necessary to determine the municipality's potential for the use of BF. Petrolândia previously presents promising lithological characteristics for the use of BF.Downloads
