Abstract

Considered by many as one of the most popular poets from the Brazilian Romanticism, Casimiro de Abreu (1839-1860) is the poet of nostalgia, of childhood, of nature. His poetry is much more than pure simplicity or feeling. It is the restrained sensuality coupled with the body as a conventional expression of passion, seduction and suffering.
