Abstract

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae under the total gas production rate and in vitro degradability of Tifton-85 dry matter (Cynodon Dactylon) through in vitro incubation of fecal inoculum of horses. Four clinically healthy foals of the Campolina breed fed Tifton-85 hay were used to obtain the fecal inoculum used in the experiment. The experimental design was completely randomized in a split-plot scheme. The plots (treatments) consisted of the addition or not (control) of 5 mg/g of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and the subplots composed by the evaluation times of the gas production (4, 8, 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 and 96 hours), with seven replications per treatment (Hay samples). The use of yeast did not influence the production of total gases, having no effect on the kinectic parameters of fermentation and on the degradability of the dry matter of Tifton 85. It was concluded that the addtion of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, at a dosage of 5 mg/g of incubated fry matter, directly to the fecal inoculum has no effect on the rate off total gas production and in vitro degradability of Tifton 85 dry matter.
