Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignant tumor of common epithelial origin in light-skinned animals with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. The present study aims to report a case of canine diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and surgical excision with the use of an axial pattern flap of the deep circumflex iliac artery to correct the defect. A French bulldog, eight years old, was evaluated presenting ulcerative lesion with about 12 cm2 in the caudal back region of the animal, close to the perineum. The diagnosis of SCC was made through histopathological examination. The surgical margins were free of tumor. We chose to use a reconstructive surgery technique to close the wound, and the flap of the deep circumflex iliac artery was performed, and no postoperative complications were observed. The technique was considered satisfactory for correction of the extensive surgical defect, allowing complete excision of the tumor.
