Abstract

Literary analysis in the training of foreign language teachers is an activity that still needs to be strengthened, especially the study of non-canonical literary works, that is, those that come from centres of production other than the United States and England. Thus, this text presents the results of the literary analysis of Devil on the Cross, by the Kenyan writer Ngugi wa Thiong'o, whose aim was to explore, from a decolonial and Ladino-Amefrican approach, the underlying expressions, practices, or conceptions of education. It was found that education is a field in dispute between colonial and decolonial forces that find in written and oral linguistic practices the mechanisms to, on the one hand, impose colonial images and sentiments that seek to perpetuate the enslavement of the minds and bodies of colonised populations and, on the other hand, try to recover the memory and, with it, the cultural and political relevance of subjugated peoples.
