Abstract

Cutaneous grafts are characterized by the complete transfer of a segment of skin to a recipient site, in order to guarantee complete coverage of the local defect, being an excellent alternative in cases where tissue coverage of large tegumentary lesions is not possible, with impossibility of coverage by direct approximation or patchwork. Such defects often result from oncological surgeries after neoplastic excision, especially in limb regions, where the presence of skin becomes scarce. The present work aims to describe the performance of a skin graft after excision of a mast cell tumor in a posterior limb (tarsal region), in a bitch, mixed breed (SRD), with 13 years of age. The patient was referred for clinical care, presenting a nodule in the limb, with rapid growth, measuring approximately 2.5 cm. Complementary tests were performed, such as blood count, biochemistry, abdominal ultrasound, electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, chest X-ray and cytology. After a diagnosis suggestive of mastocytoma, it was decided to perform surgical removal and use reconstructive surgery, aiming at tension-free synthesis and obtaining a satisfactory result. A mesh skin graft was made, whose donor site was the lateral region of the thorax. It took 35 days of postoperative follow-up with dressing changes every 3 days, until complete healing was observed. It is concluded that the surgical procedure employed was effective for the treatment of mastocytoma in the extremity, making it an efficient alternative technique to the skin flap.
